Work jokes and office rewards

Work jokes

  • My manager’s door is always open. It leads to a meeting room booked until Friday.
  • Reply-all is how the whole company learns one person’s lunch order.
  • Per my last email means I have the timestamp and I’m ready to use it.
  • The quiet zone is the desk next to the printer.
  • We’re told we’re a family here, which explains the group chat nobody can leave.
  • Every all-hands is a round of buzzword bingo nobody admits to playing.
  • The deadline was Friday, so the quick review starts Friday at 4:30 pm.
  • Back to the office for collaboration. Bring your own cables. The box in the lobby holds whatever the last people brought.
  • The whole floor shares one bin, and by mid-afternoon it’s the most collaborative thing in the building.
  • Hot desking means first in gets a monitor. Everyone after that borrows one from a desk that’s empty today.
  • The team told the organiser the Thursday game was great. It’s now every Thursday.

Office rewards instead of a raise

  1. Pizza. One slice each, counted before the box opens at the office pizza party.
  2. Branded lip balm. Handed out the year profits broke the record.
  3. A water bottle with the logo on it. It holds more than the raise did.
  4. Socks. For the most productive person on the team, who is less productive from then on.
  5. Employee of the Month. A framed photo near the lifts, and payroll unchanged.
  6. The ice cream social. It’s on Friday. Please bring your own ice cream.

How the memes game scores

Scoring the work memes game

A right caption is worth 100 points. The speed bonus for each photo holds at 100 for 3 seconds after the picture loads, then drops 10 a second, so a pick at 8 seconds adds 50. A wrong caption scores nothing, bonus included. Five right picks at full speed make 1,000, which beats a lip balm.

Some days the round comes with a twist, written on the start panel in pen before you play. In crunch time the bonus loses 20 a second. A reply all round puts four captions under each photo. Tick “Take your time” to switch the bonus off. Every right caption then pays a flat 100, and the round can’t set a best. Played as the daily on a day Work memes is on the shift, it still earns merit.

Everyone who plays today’s round gets the same five photos and captions. A solo round, any time, leaves out today’s five and the photos you’ve seen lately. Two twists come only on a solo round: remote work photos only, or only the photos that take some office time to get.
