Got a Minute?, the office card game for 2 to 5 coworkers
An office card game you play live in the browser. Every turn you take a card from the in-tray. Somewhere in there is the manager's invite.
Table
The water cooler says the next cards in the in-tray are, top first:
Employee of the month
What happened
The discard pile
How to play
- DelegateNext player takes two turns. You skip your draw.Water coolerLook at the top three cards. Only you see them. Play cards. As many as you want, or none. Others get 3 seconds to stop each one, or 30 on a relaxed table.
- Take one card from the in-tray. That ends your turn.
- Got a minute?Draw this and you're fired. An Out of office saves you.Out of officeSaves you from one Got a minute? Then you put that card back in the in-tray. Got a minute? Play an Out of office and put the card back anywhere in the in-tray. No Out of office: you're fired.
- Per my last emailStops a card just played. Any time. Even on this card. Per my last email stops a card someone just played. Last one not fired wins.
Special combos
Play cards with the same name together. What they say alone doesn't count. An Intern counts as any busywork card.

How a game goes
Every turn ends at the in-tray
You start with seven cards and one Out of office. On your turn, play as many cards as you want. Then take one card from the in-tray. That card is the risk. The in-tray holds one Got a minute? card fewer than there are players. The line under the table says how many are left.
The card nobody wants
Got a minute? is the manager’s calendar invite. You know how that ends. Draw it with an Out of office in your hand and you’re safe. Then you put the card back in the in-tray, anywhere you want. On top is mean. Draw it with no Out of office and you’re fired. Last one not fired wins.
The cards that keep you safe
- Delegate: you skip your draw. The next player takes two turns. Delegate back and the turns add up.
- Voluntold: same, but you pick the player. Play goes on from them.
- Long lunch: end your turn. Don’t take a card.
- Circle back: turn order flips. Your turn ends without a card.
- Oldest email first: take the bottom card instead. Safe, unless someone hid the invite down there.
- Water cooler: look at the top three cards. Only you see them.
- Reprioritize: look at the top three cards and put them back in any order.
- Reorg: shuffle the in-tray. Whatever anyone saw is now useless.
- Cover for me: someone gives you a card. You pick who. They pick the card, so it will be bad.
- Per my last email: stops a card someone just played. Works any time. Someone can stop it with another one, just like a real per my last email thread.
Busywork and combos
Busywork cards do nothing alone: TPS report, slide deck, spreadsheet, reply all. Play two of one kind and they do something. Two TPS reports steal a random card. Two slide decks let you see someone’s hand, take a card and give one back. Two spreadsheets let you see a hand and bin a card. Two reply alls make everyone pass a random card to the next player.
Any two cards with the same name also work as a pair. You steal a random card. Three of a kind: name a card. If they have it, they give it to you. Five cards with different names: take any card from the discard pile. Every played card ends up there, face up. An Intern counts as any busywork card.
Playing with your team
Open a table and send the link
The host opens a table and gets a code and a link. Each person opens the link, types a name and sits down. The host deals once two or more are in. With only two, bots fill the other three seats. Good for the end of a call with nothing left to talk about.
Bots for the empty chairs
Gary, Pam, Trevor and the others play when your team won’t. They look at the in-tray when it gets risky. When they know the invite is on top, they dodge the draw. Hit them with a Delegate and they often answer with Per my last email. They don’t take it personally. Want to move coworkers around on your own? Try the Reorg game.
Questions about Got a Minute?
How many people can play Got a Minute?
Two to five at one table. Open a table and send the link. If only two sit down, bots take the other three chairs. You can also play alone against three bots.
Do I need an account to play?
No. Type a name, get a table code, play. The server keeps the table only while someone is at it. Nothing is saved after.
What happens if I close the tab mid-game?
Your seat waits for you. If your turn runs out, the game takes a card for you, so nobody waits forever.
Is this Exploding Kittens?
Same kind of rules, our own cards, plus five cards from the first expansion. A few cards in the deck get you fired. An Out of office saves you once.
Can we play with a slower clock?
Yes. Before the deal, anyone at the table can pick Relaxed. Every clock then runs ten times longer: ten minutes a turn, 30 seconds to answer a card.
